Abode Village View – Month of February

Abode Village View – Month of February

Update from the Executive Director – Al Bellenchia

Dear Friends,

We are enjoying a “February thaw” these first few days of the month, after a stretch of particularly brutal cold.

We are preparing for Murshid’s Urs, as I write this, with the Abode Kitchen humming in preparation for a wonderful, celebratory dinner.  We look forward to welcoming our guests for dinner, and the video stream of Pir Zia’s program from the Astana in Richmond that follows.

Over the past few months, we have made changes in our kitchen, both in preparation for the programs season and to adapt our food service operation so that it can serve more guests, more often.  Our core team  — led by Kitchen Manager Donna Wentzel and Head Chef Fatimata Bonsa — is elevating our offerings to meet the standards of professional food service preparation, while also serving nutritious, local, sustainable and delicious food.  We believe that our kitchen can become a focal point for attracting more visitors to the Abode, and all are rising to meet that opportunity.

As February unfolds, we will be focusing on rounding out our program calendar.  We have already contracted with a number of rental programs, both new and returning, with many expanding their commitments.  Rental revenue is the foundation of the Abode’s finances, and we have been successful in growing them over the past two years, thanks to the efforts led by Ingrid Wisswaesser, Samoon Pal, Yaqin Aubert and the many who refer events to us.

We will officially open the programs season with a multi-day Open House to coincide with Passover, Easter and Earth Day (April 20-22.)  Netanel Miles-Yepez will return to the Abode to lead the program, practices and activities.  More information will be coming, along with a full detailing of the teachers, events and activities happening at the Abode in 2019.

“While it is February one can taste the full joys of anticipation. Spring stands at the gate with her finger on the latch. “ – Patience Strong

In anticipation of seeing you at the Abode soon,

Update from the Abode Inayati Center – Yaqin Aubert

The Pir Vilayat Center has received a donation from Aziza Scott of a number of posters from France about Hazrat Inayat Khan and Noor-un-Nisa. They are in French and focus primarily on Noor. They have some seldom seen photographs. These will be kept in the library of the Center. We have also received a donation of a few books and old cassette tapes of Pir Vilayat leading meditations, which we want to have transcribed and preserved.

I am working on the schedule of visiting teachers, guests, retreats and programs for 2019. More information on the schedule will be forthcoming.

Looking forward to spring and start of activities.

Abode Weekly Village View

Tara will be dancing at the Abode again this month!

After a two month hiatus the Tara Circle returns on Sunday, February 24, from 2 to 3 PM in the Quddus.
Join us as we joyfully connect with the inner goddess within each of us through dance, song and meditation.
No experience necessary. Donations to Tara Dhatu.org are welcome but not necessary.
For questions email me at [email protected].

And another even more wonderful opportunity to dance with Tara at the Abode happens this June 9-14, when my beloved teacher, Prema Dasara, and others present the annual Tara Dhatu US mainland retreat at the Abode. I’ll have details at our February circle.

Om Tare!
