Abode Village View – Month of June
Update from the Executive Director – Al Bellenchia
Dear Friends,
We are settling into our summer rhythms at the Abode, with the campus fully open and warmly welcoming.
Our first events are behind us, and thanks to our residents, staff and volunteers, were successful supported. We received lots of good feedback on our relocated and expanded welcome center and the newly-opened Rumi’s Café. Both are here to serve…please drop in!
The Mountain Camp was also opened thanks to the efforts of many, and held its first program. We have more events on our Mountain this year than in many years, and we are working to continually improve and upgrade this sacred and special space. A special shout out to our Mountain Coordinator, SaMoon Pal, for throwing heart and soul into his work.
We continue to add to our calendar of events for the summer. We have scheduled two more Abode Open Houses, one each in July and August, a musical performance by HuDost on July 19, and initial activities at the Pir Vilayat Center.
July’s Open House (July 27th -29th) will focus on kinship, interspirituality and social transformation, with practices and lessons led by Nur Azad Mangold. The program is still in development but save the date!
In August, our Abode Open House will feature a visit from Brother Arnold of the Sabbathday Lake Shakers, and explore our shared heritage. Please mark your calendars for August 17-19. Details will follow.
In May, thanks to a generous donation, we completed the acquisition of Wali McIlvaine’s house. This summer, it will house an artists workshop before becoming available in the fall as a residential rental.
The transformation of Inayat Manzil into the Pir Vilayat Center for Retreat and Meditation is also underway. We are excited to be welcoming Wahhab and Batina Sheets as Teachers-in-Residence in August. Their time at the Abode will be focused on creating “a retreat in life” at the Pir Vilayat Center, which will be suited to both experienced and novice seekers. More on that to come!
Later this month, we will be welcoming Jamelah Zidan back to the Abode, where she will join the staff as Assistant Director – Community Life. Jamelah will be focused on managing volunteer and residence programs and community building projects.
There’s a lot of energy and momentum building. We hope to see you this summer!
Gratefully,
Al

Update from the Abode Inayati Center – Wahida Young
Greetings from your Center at the Abode. We continue to work hard offering classes, Universal Worships and special events.
This past month we continued our Thursday evening Message Classes as well as the Sunday morning Meditation Classes. Salima led the Women’s New Moon circle. The Tara Circle was on a break as Aimee attended a spectacular Tara gathering in BRAZIL! I know her next circle will be full of beauty and inspiration.
We officially blessed all of the spaces at the Abode and the service was followed by a very successful bakesale speared-headed by Shakur Johnson. Now that the Cafe is open we will find other ways to increase our coffers so as not to compete with the goodies being sold at the Cafe. I hope you all have enjoyed visiting the Cafe, by the way. The more actively it is supported the sweeter the experience will be (Thursday-Saturday 11-8 and Sunday and Monday 11-6).
Our monthly meeting on June 6 may be preceded by a potluck. Stay tuned for that. Yaqin will be teaching the Message classes this month; Maria Cristina and Yaqin are planning a “Cosmic Celebration” to celebrate Pir Vilayat’s life anniversaries. Several musicians and cherags will be participating and we are looking forward to a joyful attendance. We hope you will join us for that.
Tuesday, the 19th, we will celebrate Pir Vilayat’s birthday in the Library after dinner. Nur is arranging to show a video with Pir Vilayat and maybe there will be birthday cake! Please come join in the celebration that evening if you can.
Please support your Center as much and as often as you can. We love seeing you, sharing with you and learning how we can serve you better.
With love and gratitude,
Wahida

Update from the Mountain – SaMoon Pal
This year the MTN camp was in need of opening a month earlier than usual largely due to the accumulation of new rentals. Here we are a month later and we have accomplished the standard baseline checklist to host programs. In the month of May; we had a few work camps, hosted a program, and identified ways to do better.
This month, we seek to embellish some features of the facilities to serve as a hospitable camp.
Some of these include:
- Installing gizmos on pipes to control hot water temperature
- Motion Sensor Lights around the camp and big tent lighting alternatives
- Invest in more beddings for huts and cabins

Abode Weekly Village View
Upcoming Week’s Events
Monday, June 4
– 2:00pm – 5:00pm Culture, Ecology, & Regenerative Design with Kevin & Shakur – Razzaq Picnic Tables
“What is human’s place in nature?” Discussion/presentation, activities, core routines of nature observation, hands on projects. We’ll focus on eco-literacy, spending time within the thriving ecosystem of the Abode. We’ll observe the patterns of sunlight, water, soil, trees, plants, and mammals on the land and experience the ways they interact, affect, serve, benefit and adjust to each other. We’ll learn and witness some of the evidence of the history of the land and the human communities that have lived here. Then we’ll take a good look at the state of the world. And by using the tools of movements like Permaculture, Regenerative Design, and Culture Repair we’ll look at ways humans can move towards a healthy way of being part of the ecosystem. We hope to evolve this into an open lab of creative ideas and designs.
