Abode Village View – Week of 10/30

Abode Village View – Week of 10/30

“The sunglass reflects the heart of the sun; the contemplative heart reflects the divine qualities.” – Hazrat Inayat Khan

Dear Friends,

We have just concluded our final Village Visit of the year, and together enjoyed a late fall weekend of kinship, work, food, and sharing of individual and collective stories.  In other words, community.

Over the past two weeks, many hands and hearts have come together at Sherdyl Manzil to begin the process of converting that space into a community café. We have cleared land and shared visions, ideas and plans for the project.  We will continue to share updates on progress in the weeks ahead.

As we build towards a beautiful future, I’d like to remind those interested in service that we are looking for two additional Board members, one from from our local and one from the extended Abode community.  Adding insight and expertise to our Board is critical to our long-term sustainability, and we are excited to receive nominations and applications.

Details on the nomination process, including requirements and an application, can be found on at https://theabode.org/board/.  If you have questions, please feel free to call me or email board@theabode.org.

Many thanks!

Al

Programs Update

Greetings all!

Did you notice last week’s picture?  Did you notice this week’s picture?  It’s like Highlights magazine – what’s different?  Give up?  Last week’s picture showed Razzaq’s courtyard door as red and this week it is pictured as green.  The Abode now has matching green doors.  This green is more historically accurate and now all doors share the same color – green of verdancy, growth, and life!  Special thanks to Wahida Young for diligently painting these doors and thus orienting and uniting us visually.

Friday we had a great (albeit chilly morning) walk-thru of the Abode’s future Cafe (Sherdyl Manzil) and the ideas, energy, and working spirit is flowing!  Reach out if you have questions or if you want to volunteer to help (volunteer@theabode.org).

This afternoon we just finished our final Village Visit of 2017.  We had a work morning and have been working on:

• Clearing the stream above Quddus
• Scraping outside of the future Cafe
• Walkways to the red hut
• Clearing the wood pile in the Upper Field (adjacent to the Herb Garden)
• Filling the hole behind the Barn
• Raking Mountain road culverts
• Resetting steps to the Herb Garden
• Winterizing in Razzaq

We will continue working on these projects and would love any help any of you are willing to offer.  We will provide housing for anyone wanting to come help for multiple days.

Tomorrow we are celebrating our Spooky Halloween Party which should be a fantastical time of frightful frenzy.  If you’re local, bring a snack to share and a playlist to blast!  We’ll be in the future Café (Sherdyl Manzil) and starting at 6:30pm.

And don’t forget Thanksgiving at the Abode!  This sacred tradition of togetherness, family, friends, community, cooking, games, and fun continues this year.  Final Details should be available on Wednesday, as well as registration and pre-paying online.  www.theabode.org/thanksgiving
Also, Thanksgiving Day we will have a special announcement, so keep your eyes peeled!

Finally, we want you to join us for “The Soul’s Journey” retreat co-led by Naima Khabira Brown and special guest, Aziza Scott.  These two heads, current and former respectively, of the Inayati Order’s Esoteric School will lead through the alchemical retreat process using breath, sound, visualizations, and more!  Begins at 10am on Friday, November 10.  Details and registration can be found at www.theabode.org/programs/374/.

See you ‘round the Village!

Wings out, hearts up!

So one has to be using one’s senses as one is doing the practice and sensing the sound that is coming into one’s ears as being carried over into the Divine Hearing, the direct perception of God hearing through your ears, and so forth, with one’s vision though the eyes are closed and with one’s knowledge. ”   Pir Zia
