Upcoming Programs

Urs of Pir-O-Murshid Hazrat Inayat Khan: Special Dinner & Pir Zia Livestream | Tuesday, February 5 | 6:00 PM | Razzaq Dining Hall & Quddus Meditation Hall | A special dinner is held for the Urs, or memory of the passing/death of a loved one, in this case Hazrat Inayat Khan. Why Inayat Khan? One could say the Abode, the Abode farm and the houses near the Abode wouldn’t exist without him. It was from him that his son, Pir Vilayat, was instrumental in choosing this location we now call the Abode. An Urs is a remembering, even a celebration, of the passing, particularly a spiritual teacher, because it is seen not as a time of sadness, but the time when the soul returns to the source, the lover returns to the Beloved. An Urs is sometimes celebrated like a wedding anniversary. After the dinner at 7:00 there will be a live stream in the meditation hall of Pir Zia celebrating the Urs on Richmond, VA. Please join us for this time to be together. There is also a tradition at the darghas (tombs of spiritual teachers in India)  of having a langer (a meal for the poor). Therefore money from the dinner will be donated to Charlie’s Pantry, the local food pantry in New Lebanon. Abode residents are asked to make a donation. Everyone else the meal is $15. Everyone is welcome. Volunteers to help with dinner clean-up are most welcome.
