Abode Village View – Week of 4/23

Abode Village View – Week of 4/23

“The surface of the human intelligence is the intellect; when it is turned outside in, it becomes the source of all revelation.” – Hazrat Inayat Khan

Dear Friends,

Spring arrived to grace our Opening Weekend/Earth Day gathering, and what a celebration of Abode community life it was. We welcomed many returning friends and new ones alike, who came together in all of the activities that define life at the Abode.

We came together to plant a new Orchard of the Prophets, enjoy freshly prepared healthy food, meditate, sing, dance and marvel at the mysteries of life on our magical planet Earth.

Many thanks to Evan Thaler-Null, Meagan, Sara and the farm/ecology team for grounding us; Katya, Larz and Andy in the kitchen for sustaining us; Cherish Marie, Topaz and Wahida in Guest Services, for holding us; Vimala and Heart-Centered Kirtan for inspiring us, and to all the others who helped open our hearts and home.

Let the season flower!

Upcoming Week’s Events

– 6:00pm Community Dinner – Razzaq Dining Room
– 7:00pm Philosophy of Spirituality Discussion Group – Razzaq Library

Thursday, April 26
– 6:00pm Community Dinner – Razzaq Dining Room
– 7:00pm Message Class with Winfried – Meditation Hall (Quddus)
April’s class will be a four part introduction to meditation. These classes will introduce basic concepts of meditation and spiritual experience. We will draw on old meditative practices, scientific insights, and recently developed mediation practices. We will also use movement and sound to connect with our inner experience. Special emphasis is devoted to the heart – the physical heart and the heart center (anahata chakra in the Hindu and tantric Buddhist traditions, latif khalb in the Sufi tradition) and start exploring the dimensions of the heart.  No prior formal meditation practice is necessary — all you need to bring is your presence, comfortable clothing, and a curious mind.

Sunday, April 29
– 10:00am Meditation Class
– 11:00am Universal Worship with Yaqin and María Cristina – Meditation Hall (Quddus)
– 12:30pm Sunday Brunch – Razzaq Dining Room
– 2:00pm Tara Circle with Aimée – Meditation Hall (Quddus)
We celebrate the Buddhist Great Mother deity Tara through dance, meditation and prayer.  “The practice of Green Tara helps to overcome fear and anxiety, but devotees also believe that she can grant wishes, eliminate suffering of all kinds and bring happiness. In times of great difficulty, millions of people call upon ‘Great Noble Tara.’  “White Tara is referred to as ‘Mother of all the Buddhas.’  This is because she embodies the motivation that is compassion.”  Join us in these beautiful practices. No prior knowledge or experience necessary. For more information contact Aimée at aimeeblj@gmail.com

Upcoming Programs

Emerald Earth Retreat, May 4 – 6
Register here.
We will share in practices for cultivating the natural self, exploring the alchemy of the soul’s journey, and orienting more clearly to our unfolding purpose. Through retreat we touch upon our essential self, fresh and spontaneous, and affirm our rootedness in the sacredness of life. This in turn, fulfills a deep calling of the soul, bridging our inner awakening with our sacred task of participating in an earth of beauty.

Please check our calendar and programs pages for an extended look at upcoming events and happenings. We look forward to being with you soon at the Abode!
