Abode Village View – Week of 5/29
“By creating happiness, one fulfills one’s life’s purpose.” – Hazrat Inayat Khan
Dear Friends,
As May draws to a close, we’d like to thank all of you for your tremendous effort and support during the first few months of our programs season. Among the reoccurring feedback we’ve received from visitors is the sense that the overall energy at the Abode is becoming more grounded and clear. We could not have reached this point without the support of staff, volunteers, residents, and the larger community. Thank you.
Summer is almost here but first we invite you to register for a number of our upcoming programs and volunteer opportunities.
May 29
Memorial Day Potluck
Tomorrow is Memorial Day and we cannot wait to celebrate with you! Lunch will be cancelled for the holiday, but we will have a community potluck feast in the courtyard! The Abode will provide some goodies including some meat selections and veggie selections, but bring your own other meats, cheeses, beverages, even ice cream toppings! We will gather around 4pm on Monday (May 29), enjoying music, frisbee (dare we say volleyball is possible?), potential performances, and general good times as a community.
Invite friends and family to join (and RSVP to kitchen@theabode.org)!

June 2-4
Abode Mountain Service Camp – Free Stay!
Reviving the Shaker Work Camp tradition, this free three-day event will comprise of work, celebration, and fellowship as we open our Mountain Camp for the season. We invite you to come meet Josh Ramos, our Mountain Manager, create clear paths from huts and cabins, revivify the sanctuary, and enjoy sweet work in the company of friends, new and old.
Meals and overnight accommodations will be provided on the Mountain throughout the three days as exchange for your work contribution (donations of supplies also welcome). We will work during the day with lots of fun and breaks in between. Nights will include bonfires, play, spiritual attunement, dancing, and more!
Arrive for Thursday Message Class and stay through Universal Worship led by Wahida Young, which will include the House Blessing ceremony. Bless both the Mountain Camp and Main Campus in this wonderful service weekend!

Farm Class: Tillage, Planting, and Tending with Evan Thaler-Null
Walking the farm fields in June, we’ll observe many stages of tillage and growth. This is a great time to talk about the process of preparing soil, planting, and tending crops during the season. We’ll discuss how our horse-powered equipment helps us achieve our goals on Abode Farm and how to determine what techniques are appropriate for you.
Please wear clothing and footwear suitable for the outdoors. Open to all experience levels. Click here to register.
The rest of June finds Netanel hosting his foundation’s “Future of Religion and Interspirituality” group June 15-20, during which time the Inayati Order Center at the Abode will honor Abode founder, Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, for his Urs (passing) and birthday, June 17 and 19.
Salima McCall will lead a New Moon Women’s Circle on Solstice, June 21, right before our Village Visit June 23-25, followed by a welcome potluck on the 26th. Nestled in this busy weekend is also the end of the holy month of Ramadan, Eid al’Fitr, on the 25th. And our beloved BaitCon friends will return to the Mountain Camp June 22-26. Season of the Rose starts June 28 and runs through July 3.
