Abode Village View – Week of 7/31
“Every difficulty can be made easy by the power of a willing spirit.” – Hazrat Inayat Khan
Dear Friends, Lovers, and Ambassadors of the Abode,
Happiest of summers and almost-August!
It is Saturday afternoon and I am literally (and literarily) writing this under the apple tree in front of Razzaq, a cardinal chirping, and bees buzzing behind me. This is truly a glorious place!
We just finished a great albeit small work day of moving things around in Jami’, the Red Barn, followed by a delicious lunch specially prepared for the work day.
By now, you’ve noticed two names that are different and/or new. As the Abode continues to grow following the departure of the Inayati Order and our beloved Sarafil Bawa (Pir Zia), we are employing the new names he offered and more accurate spellings for the buildings already named. They will be:
Quddus, the newly named Meditation Hall
Jami, the newly named Red Barn
Razzaq, the newly spelled Rezak
Fattah, the newly spelled Fatah
Vakil
Mughni
Alim
As you can see, that is Seven buildings named after the qualities of the One. Wisdom’s House, as Pir Zia reminds us, has Seven Pillars – a lovely symbolism. These names and spellings will be used from here on out.
Special thanks to Amin Dawdy for a lovely evening on July 29 with “Listen, Listen, Listen to ‘My Heart’s Song’”, an imaginal, theatre-of-the-heart experience of voice and music of Hazrat Inayat Khan and more.
The week to come (and the week after) will find the Wild Woman Fest up on the Mountain Camp – no men allowed! Thanks to all the women who have signed up to help make this a spectacular event.
And now some exciting news – we have a great selection of programs to announce.
Registration is open for The World of Kabbalah from the Inside with Eve Ilsen. Eve will lead an experiential exploration of imagination, storytelling, Shabbat rituals, art, and music! Eve’s work in somatic psychology and the imaginal world, as well as teaching with her late husband, Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, means you should “come ready for surprises!” Prices start at $250. Learn more.
Registration is open also for Healing Ourselves and Our Community: Harmonizing In Retreat. This retreat invites people of color, healers, healers of color, and those particularly interested in diversity to gather for a sacred weekend, starting at the Equinox, involving healing workshops, diversity dialogues, a lively, celebratory, musical Universal Worship on Sunday, and a very special dialogue and concert with master musician, Dr. Randy Weston (see Concert information below). Prices start at $230. Learn more.
Registration is open also for Concert with Master Musician, Dr. Randy Weston, in conversation with Pir Zia Inayat-Khan, moderated by Dr. Fatima Hafiz-Muid. Dr. Randy Weston has taken inspiration from Hazrat Inayat Khan’s Mysticism of Sound and Music in a long-ranging career of exceptional music. Dr. Weston with dialogue with Pir Zia (streamed from the Astana) and then offer a performance. Tickets are $40; those attending the Healers Retreat receive admission with the retreat. Learn more.
Finally, keep your eyes peeled for the launch of our Abode Summer Appeal in next week’s monthly Village View and how you can continue supporting this “sanctuary for Sufis and Seekers”!
Wings out, hearts up!
